Description

On the island of Yakushima, a mysterious primeval forest of ancient cedars carpeted with rare mosses and wild azaleas. From the massive trunks of the yakusugi, the humus, the incredibly lush green vegetation, and the cascading clear waters, emanates a marvelous woody, smooth, and purely botanical fragrance.

On the island of Awaji, renowned for its favorable climate, the finest incense in the world is crafted. Following a tradition over a thousand years old, passed down from father to son, incense is artisanally made by Koh-shis, or masters of aromas. These experts are uniquely skilled in the four steps of incense-making: blending exclusively natural materials—precious woods, herbs, plants, and plant resins—with fragrance; kneading the mixture into a paste, pressing and working it thoroughly, then letting it rest for two weeks to absorb the scent. The paste is then rolled into long, thin ribbons and cut to size. It is air-dried in the west wind for three days before being bundled into sticks.

Box of approximately 125 sticks. Each stick burns for about 30 minutes.
